The weekly train from Secunderbad to New Jalpaiguri was delayed – for a change we heartily welcomed the development asit meant that we did not need to loose sleep for alighting at the middle of the bone-chilling night in the middle of a firmly entrenched winter.
The train very thoughtfully offloaded us at around predawn. With the town still wrapped in a blanket of mist, we drove through the silent sleepy streets to another station where an unassuming empty train stood at one end of the open platform.

The place, 640 kms from Kolkata and 85 kms from Siliguri is situated in the south eastern fringe of the Neora Valley National Park.
Route by Car
Kolkata- Krishnanagar- Raiganj- Dalkhola-Siliguri-Sevoke –Chalsa- Samsing-Suntalekhola
NH 34 from Kolkata to Dalkhola, NH 31 from Dalkhola to Chalsa and then the State Highway to Samsing and finally the forest department road to Suntalekhola .
En route halts: Sinclairs Retreat at Chalsa for a breathtaking bird’s eye view of the Duars.
